Emotional Intelligence

This elective focuses on emotional intelligence (EQ), which is all about understanding and managing your emotions in a positive way, as well as recognising and influencing the emotions of others. You will learn about emotional development and how to build true emotional resilience and intelligence. You will gain a better understanding of yourself through self-awareness and emotional awareness, and learn strategies to make positive changes in behaviour, improve self-esteem, and gain more confidence. You will understand the connection between thoughts, emotions, and actions, and how they can influence each other. You will develop effective thinking and behaviour skills to build self-confidence and self-acceptance and learn how to reduce stress, increase motivation, and achieve higher goals. Most importantly, students will learn tools to develop a higher emotional intelligence and manage anxiety and stress, which improves overall well-being.

Access Course Enrolment:
  • Enrolment in our pre-GCSE or pre-A level access course.
  • Access to our self-study materials and platform, live class lessons, and individual teacher support in Office Hours.
  • Weekly teacher-marked homework.
  • Half termly reports.
  • Support from our SENDCo for pupils with special educational needs or disabilities, including assessment for access arrangement entitlement.
  • Support with English for pupils whose first language is not English.
  • A Highgrove Education Office365 account, including Teams, SharePoint and a school email

Teacher Profile

Mrs Field brings over 20 years of experience and a passion for mental health and emotional intelligence. Since 2018 she has worked full-time in coaching and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) practice, specialising in working with children and young people. She has seen firsthand the positive impact that building resilience and developing emotional intelligence can have on individuals, empowering them to create meaningful change in their lives. Her qualifications and accreditations include a BSc in Chemistry, as well as certifications as a qualified and accredited Life Coach, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Practitioner, and Senior Member of ACCPH (Accredited Counsellors, Coaches, Psychotherapists, and Hypnotherapists).
