Homeschoolers are well known for taking an alternative approach to education. This typically involves a child-centric learning journey, with the focus of education based on a child’s interests and passions. The result is often an impressive depth of knowledge, with children being empowered to follow their ambitions. But what happens when a homeschooled child has ambitions to join university and needs qualifications to prove their ability level?
Highgrove Online School can help ambitious homeschoolers achieve to the best of their potential at GCSEs and A levels with the support of expert teachers who are subject specialists, and within a community of high achieving peers.
The Ben Salmi family know all about homeschooling, with five children who have all used homeschool as a way of achieving their goals. The second oldest, Tray-Sean, studied independently through to his GCSEs, then opted to take A levels with the support of online school.
Mum of five, Sabrina, talks about their experience:
“My son was given the best education and it was all provided online, which granted us our freedom to travel and maintain our family lifestyle of servitude while knowing that my son was thriving academically.
The transition to this prestigious online institution was seamless, and we quickly felt embraced by the warm and supportive community.
This was a totally new experience for me as a mother because it was the first time that I had a child in private education at A levels as my children previously attended state schools, then I homeschooled. I felt totally supported as I could contact all his teachers and his Learning Coach any time I needed.
Through the good times and the challenging times we were engulfed in an abundance of support that blew our minds beyond words. Tray-Sean featured in several articles, headed the Economics Society alongside some peers, he participated in clubs and electives too, he received awards and became an Ambassador.
Words cannot describe the joy I feel as a mother knowing that the above experiences have transformed the trajectory of my son’s future and also us as a family because of the deep bonds that we have found through online schooling.”
Online schooling can offer homeschoolers a sense of community and belonging, and gives families the opportunity to retain a more flexible and individualised approach to learning, while studying under the guidance of expert teachers.
While Tray-Sean heads off to study at SOAS University, his younger siblings are now following in the footsteps of their older brother. Sabrina looks forward to their next steps.
To say that we are all excited about fully enrolling in September is an understatement. We have travel scheduled in our calendar which we can adhere to, knowing that both Yasmine and Paolo will receive excellent academic support while continuing our family mission to touch the hearts and minds of young people across the globe through our Ben Salmi Family Schools Tour.
None of this would be possible if we didn’t have access to Highgrove Education and their award-winning online education programs.
I love knowing that my children will gain the education that they need to thrive beyond words. As a mother of five with an 11-year-old soon to follow in the footsteps of his elder siblings, words cannot convey the deep sense of gratitude that I have for Highgrove Education for granting our family the privilege to be a part of their international family. It will continue to impact our lives as a family for generations to come.
Despite the physical distance inherent in online education, the school fostered a strong sense of community and belonging and offers a top-tier education. The support network is unparalleled.
