Key Stage 3 Taster Lesson: Maths
Our Taster Lessons are live events that give you the opportunity to meet our expert teachers and see what teaching and learning is like at our ground-breaking online school. Our Maths Teacher, Mr Paul Ryan, will lead an interactive lesson that will give you an idea of what it’s like to study Maths at Key Stage 3 and will offer you the opportunity to ask any questions that you have about the subject and/or teaching and learning at Highgrove Online School during our Q&A.
Paul Ryan has taught Maths and Further Maths A level, IB, GCSE, and IGCSE for over 25 years. Recent roles have included teaching at Stonyhurst College, Ardingly College, and Magdalen College School, Oxford. At Stonyhurst, he was responsible for half of all the A*s at A level in the entire College. Mr Ryan has been responsible for UK Maths Trust challenges, and has always enjoyed preparing students for these. Mr Ryan graduated from Magdalen College, Oxford, with a degree in Mathematics, and took his PGCE at Cambridge.
What will pupils learn in Key Stage 3 Maths?
A high-quality Key Stage 3 Maths education provides a foundation for understanding the world through the development of fluency, reasoning and problem-solving skills. It inspires pupils to explore mathematical ideas with curiosity, appreciate the beauty and power of the subject, and build essential knowledge of core concepts and processes. By engaging with a variety of routine and non-routine problems, learners gain the skills to reason mathematically, apply their knowledge across interconnected topics, and tackle real-world challenges with confidence and precision.
This online Taster Lesson will showcase how studying KS3 Maths equips students with the understanding and confidence they need to apply their mathematical knowledge in science, geography, computing and other subjects.
Bring your questions, a notebook, and your enthusiasm for learning.
