Dr Carol Joyner has a first-class degree in German, a Masters in Contemporary European Culture and a PGCE in Modern Foreign Languages (German with French) from the University of Southampton. She also holds a doctorate from the University of Winchester in Applied Theology and Sociology, a Post Graduate Certificate in Learning & Teaching in Higher Education, the CertTESOL exam (Trinity College, London) and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
Dr Joyner has taught Social Sciences for seven years and tutored German over many years.
She taught A Level Sociology and German and Access to Higher Education (Social Sciences) at Andover College, Hampshire, from 2018-2021 and HNC Sociology, Criminology and Politics, and Higher Sociology at UHI (University of the Highlands and Islands) from 2021-2023. She works as an Academic Student Support Worker at Queen Margaret University in Edinburgh and at Edinburgh College, helping students with diverse needs achieve beyond their dreams. Dr Joyner prides herself on being easy to talk to and creating an enjoyable, yet results-focused, classroom experience. Dr Joyner now lives just outside of Edinburgh with her wife and elderly cat.
