Dr David O’Farrell

Dr David O’Farrell took A levels in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Maths, French and Music, then graduated from Durham University with a first class honours degree in Natural Sciences. He stayed in Durham to complete a PhD developing luminescent transition metal compounds for potential application in organic LED displays for phones and TVs.

Dr O’Farrell went on to gain a PGCE from Newcastle University and taught as a teacher of Chemistry at Dame Allan’s Senior School in Newcastle. He subsequently worked as a Chemistry content writer for Cognito Education before working at the Centre for Life, delivering science workshops and outreach activities to school groups of all ages across the North East.

In his spare time, Dr O’Farrell enjoys being active in the outdoors (hill walking, running or cycling) and playing the trumpet and piano in various bands and orchestras in the region. He lives in rural Northumberland with his wife and son.
