Jonathan Shields

Jonathan has taught Economics and Business Studies at A level  for almost 30 years. In 2026, his pupils achieved 100% A*-A grades in A level Economics and A Level Business, with 66% of students scoring an A* grade. 

 He is a multiple award-winning teacher who has additionally held positions of Head of Economics and Business, Head of Sixth Form and Director of Teaching and Learning. 

 He is an ex-chief examiner for GCSE Business for Edexcel, ex-Principal Examiner for A Level Business and is currently an OFQUAL subject expert in Economics and Business. He has also trained over 6,000 teachers across the UK and internationally in his respective subjects. The students Jonathan has taught have achieved UK first places in external examinations on 22 separate occasions, and he has mentored students to win 22 UK and International Business and Economics Competitions, including the International Business Olympiad, UK Young Enterprise and Student Investor competitions. 

 Jonathan has co-authored five Economics and Business textbooks and has been a consultant editor on a further nine textbooks. He reviewed self-study courses for Harrow School Online and authored courses for Highgrove Online School. He holds a degree in Economics from the University of Hull and a PGCE from the University of Leeds. Jonathan lives in north Cornwall.
