Our Taster Lessons are live events that give you the opportunity to meet our expert teachers and see what teaching and learning is like at our ground-breaking online school. Our Art & Design Teacher, Ms Lorna Hope, will lead an interactive lesson that will give you an idea of what it’s like to study her subject at GCSE and will offer you the opportunity to ask any questions that you have about the Art & Design GCSE and/or teaching and learning at Highgrove Online School during our Q&A. We offer the Fine Art endorsement at Highgrove Education, which can be studied entirely online.
Lorna Hope has over 20 years leading outstanding art departments in London, and believes that art is a subject to be enjoyed by all. Having taught from 11-18, her students have gained excellent grades in both GCSE and A level and over all developed a love of Art and Design.
As a moderator/examiner for a leading exam board Ms Hope is aware of the assessment criteria and how best to reach the highest grades through structured work. She has been teaching Lower School, GCSE and Foundation Diploma online for the past year and believes it is possible for students all over the world to learn together within the virtual creative classroom.
Ms Hope believes in teaching the formal skills through observation and understanding the principles, whilst allowing her students to develop ideas and experiment to find a personal creative style. The study of Art and Design should be enjoyable and help to build confidence, it is a fabulous way from which to communicate ideas and experiment whilst creating personal pieces. She believes all students can engage with the subject and from it apply their skills across the curriculum.
Why Study Art and Design at GCSE?
The opportunity to study Art and Design at Highgrove Education allows students to explore a wide range of media and techniques, including drawing, painting, print, photography and sculpture. Through practical work and exploring the work of artists and designers we develop students’ technical skills to give them the creative language from which to create their own work, focusing on individuality and creative thinking.
Join us to explore some of the work completed and to see if this is the course for you. If you are keen to develop technical skills combined with exploration into a variety of media and the world around you this is the course for you.
