At Highgrove we have selected the Fine Art endorsement which allows us to explore the world of art through drawing, painting, print making, photography, sculpture, and mixed media including textile pieces. We will initially focus on skill building through a series of studies exploring media and techniques, the work of artists and developing students own ideas.
Art is an opportunity to explore and experiment with visual resources to create and produce work reflecting the world around us, it is through exploration of skills combined with knowledge about the world around us that allows us to produce personal and unique pieces.
The teaching includes 3 thematic coursework units for Component 1 and Component 2 is the exam-based question, research work and a controlled test completed over 10 hours. Students are encouraged to explore things they are passionate about, for example landscape painting, figurative art, abstract expressionism etc. We also discuss work and ideas in class learning how to talk about the work and develop critical analysis skills. The two-year course is exciting and rewarding and varies based on the student’s chosen direction.
