Political Philosophy

This course explores the history and philosophy behind contemporary political ideas, starting with the Age of Enlightenment in the seventeenth century. Core philosophical concepts to do with rights and responsibilities are explored through case studies, taking in the main political ideas that have shaped the past 400 years and influence attitudes and opinions today. Students will be able to share their own experiences and ideas to understand how their context and outlook have been influenced by key philosophies. The course will be valuable to students intending to apply for PPE and Social & Political Science.

  • Access to our self-study materials and platform, live class lessons, and individual teacher support in Office Hours.
  • Weekly teacher-marked homework.
  • Half termly reports.
  • Support from our SENDCo for pupils with special educational needs or disabilities, including assessment for access arrangement entitlement.
  • Support with English for pupils whose first language is not English.
