David Hodgkinson is an experienced teacher, educational leader and pastoral tutor. He graduated from Balliol College at the University of Oxford with a first class degree in Classics with Sanskrit, before conducting research at Trinity College Dublin on Greek Historiography, and more recently writing research papers on comparative Greek and Indian epic. He has been Head of Classics at two leading Oxfordshire Girls’ Schools, as well as a London Boys’ School, where he was also Head of Sixth Form. Mr Hodgkinson is a former Chief Examiner in Classics, and Deputy Chair of Examiners with a leading UK awarding body. He has also taught Classics at University Level in both the UK and Ireland.
Mr Hodgkinson has led Careers and University work at previous schools, and been a Sixth Form tutor. Most recently he has been directing the Academic Development of two International Sixth Form Colleges in Oxford. He trained as a Coach with the Animas Centre in 2002, and is also a Strengths Profile Accredited Practitioner and holds additional training in Counselling, Autism and Mental Health First Aid. He has worked to support students and colleagues who have been struggling with mental health or other challenges, as well as coaching colleagues to support them in their professional journeys.
Mr Hodgkinson has been a school governor for a local state primary school, and is also a volunteer trainer for Oxfordshire Children’s Safeguarding Board. He is a Fellow of the Chartered College of Teaching and also of the Royal Society of Arts. Mr Hodgkinson has a keen interest in fitness, and enjoys sailing, as well as foreign travel and language learning.
