Dr John Taylor is an experienced teacher of Physics and Philosophy. An educational innovator who believes in the power and importance of teaching students to think for themselves, Dr Taylor was a founder of the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ). Throughout the EPQ’s lifetime, he has been a senior assessor with a leading awarding organization.
Dr Taylor taught for 16 years at Rugby School, where he introduced the EPQ and held the posts of Head of Physics and Head of Philosophy. Moving to Cranleigh School in 2015 as Assistant Head (Director of Learning, Teaching and Innovation), Dr Taylor has worked with Cranleigh’s schools in the UK and internationally to promote project qualifications and independent learning, He led the creation of the School Certificate in Philosophy and the ISEB iPQ.
Prior to teaching, John graduated from Balliol College Oxford with a Double First in Physics and Philosophy and went on to postgraduate study in Philosophy, completing his Doctoral dissertation on the philosophy of time.
He lives in Rugby with his wife, two children and his Airedale Terrier, Diggory.
